When do chicken pox symptoms start?

2 year old played with his cousin for a few hours last week. Cousin came out in spots 2 days later.

Its now been exactly a week since contact. 2 year old has had a temp since yesterday and is very clingy. I know spots can take 10-21 days to come out but could this be before spots symptoms or is it too early yet and the temp is something else?

Im very clueless with all this

If your DS does develop chickenpox, remove as much clothing as possible and keep his skin cool. Similarly reduce bedding/nightwear to just a sheet and nappy.
The cooler the skin, the fewer pox vesicles develop, with therefore less itching, scratching and scarring.
There was an interesting paper in the BMJ some years ago, where two GPs cut one arm and one leg off their (chickenpox infected) children’s pajamas, and counted the numbers of pox vesicles on each side.
It was very noticeable that the exposed side on each child had far fewer lesions than the clothed side.
