Please tell me not to worry...

I KNOW I'm probably being irrationally worried and I know some babies skip crawling altogether but maybe I just need to hear it from real people rather than baby advice websites or from people whose similar aged babies have been crawling for ages.

My dd is 10.5 months old and not crawling at all. She has an absolute meltdown if placed on her belly. She used to be pretty good at tummy time and when she was around 7 months movement looked promising as she learned to shuffle backwards on her belly. But even that's stopped and now she won't stay on her belly for more than a few seconds before screaming. She lifts her head and neck up a lot into an 'upward dog position' but won't move her legs up. From sitting she'll often lunge forward and we almost think she's about to crawl but she'll either stop herself or end up on her front again.

She does love standing holding my hands/furniture and is slowly starting to cruise so that's a good thing I know. But it's hard at classes when I see babies clearly much younger than her crawling around everywhere. I know it's not a competition but but still. Please tell me I'm being an idiot.

Bertiebotts there's a deadline! My 14 month old has only recently started moving about. He's great. No need to worry the op. Kids don't come with deadlines 😊😂

My first never crawled, but walked from 12 months, whereas my second crawled at around 8 months but was later walking!

My DS didn't crawl till 11 months. He would sit there with his toys until they were all out of reach and then just shout until I helped him 😂he had no intention of moving under his own steam and then one day did this wobbly uncoordinated crawl (with numerous belly flops) all the way across our bedroom floor and out of the door.

My two didn't crawl until 11 months. Didn't walk until 16 and 17 months.

I'm going to recommend Bluey Baby Race to you as well. You can find it on YouTube.

It's a kids show, but a good message for FTMs

@Twizbe haha what a coincidence I actually watched this the other day! I agree it was good, it actually made me well up a little.

To those with late crawlers, when your babies did eventually crawl, did it help their frustration? I think part of the problem is she often genuinely wants to crawl and move around and she's very energetic, like always bouncing when sitting on my lap etc. But she has a lot of frustrated meltdowns because she can't move as much as she wants yet.

So mine never did crawl, but just to say when DS walked, within the space of a week or so it was like he had a personality transplant. He’s still fierce, but now super jolly and cheerful and always laughing. Before 15 months he was a permanently frustrated, angry ball of antisocial-ness Grin so there is hope!

@AliceW89 oh that's good to hear! Mine gets so angry I'm sometimes convinced she's already a teenager.

For mine who started bum shuffling at 11 months, not really I'm afraid! She screamed all the time as a baby and gradually grew out of most of it as time went on, so by 11 months she was much 'better' than when she was smaller, but then she started having tantrums around the 12/13 month mark anyway. She's nearly 4 and her tantrums are...intense...! She is a 'spirited' personality and been that way since birth hah.

My two weren't frustrated with not being able to move.

I think my son was just super chilled and my daughter realised that people bring things to her.
