DD crawling, and now her cloth nappies appear to be leaking!

Hello ladies

You can always be relied upon to give useful advice, so ? my dd has been crawling for two weeks now. She has been in cloth nappies (tot bots & motherease) since she was 6 weeks old and no probs and we now seem to have a leakage ? wet patch on back of trousers yesterday and today. Think maybe is it when she wees in motion! I am a total cloth nappy fan and don't want to stop. Think both leaks might have been when she was in the motherease actually but can't be sure.

Any tips?

Thanks

Are your wraps quite old, they might just be wearing out? I think there is a way of trying to reproof them but I can't remember what it is! I expect someone else will come along and advise. Or perhaps she is drinking more and therefore weeing more now she's more active, do you boost them, or maybe need to change more often?

Once my dd1 was over a few months old I found the Motherease often weren't absorbent enough. I used to add another booster as well as the snap in booster.(a cheap flannel is fine) Tots bots are more absorbent as you know.

Sometimes you will find you have a day or two of leaks with no apparent reason so it may just be a blip.

To reproof wraps (although I have never tried it) apparently you can give them a quick go in the tumble dryer for a few minutes. No idea if it works - I read it on a website.

I used to have to change the Motherease at least every 2-3 hours, sometimes that wasn't enough, especially in the mornings when she tended to drink more.

Not a big fan of MEOS myself either. Didn't even last DD2 an hour sometimes and the fit wasn't good for her.

Is the patch on the back of her trousers at the bottom of the bum? Thats the common place to find leaks due to ill fitting wraps. What wraps do you use? Once DD started crawling I had to move over to Motherease airflows as everything else moved too much (= leaks) or not enough (= red lines on chubby legs). I found the airflow allowed her to move about as much as she liked and still not leak.

You can re-proof most wraps in a tumble drier if you think the PUL has deteriorated.

I was going to say the same as Coby.

I gave up on MEOS in the end, they just didn't hold enough.

It could well be the shape of the wraps that are causing the problem too, they tend to slim out and change shape when they crawl so they might not be such good a fit now.

Thanks for the replies (only just got round to checking).

We had leaks Thurs and Fri and then seems to be ok since then (might have had one this morning, but it was so wet out with rain lashing us in all directions that I'm not sure!).

Coby, the patch is on the back of the trousers at the bottom of the bum. Maybe the wraps do need replacing. I have the motherease velcro ones. I will try to re-proof them but failing that (and if we get more leaks) will try the airflows. Good idea to boost the nappies too. I usually change the nappy every 3-4 hours, but agree that more frequent changes will help too. On Thursday I had lugged her into London to work with me straight from her sleep so it was longer than usual in the same nappy.

Thanks for the advice ...
