Snack for nursery

Ds starts nursery this Autumn. It’s 7.30-12 slot, although I will probably drop him around 8.30am.

They need a ‘ substantial’ snack ( or Jause they call it here) for 9.30/10am.
Sample picture shows what I would just call a full lunch tbh, sandwich/ fruit/ veg/ savoury extra. They then provide hot lunch to all those staying for lunch ( Ds won’t be)

Is this normal?
The small snacks at home are ie one biscuit, or small banana or similar, and he doesn’t always have something.

With this his ‘snack’ and ‘lunch’ would be basically the same things or size.

Never heard of it...All nurseries I know provide all foods and snacks even if its at an extra cost.

How old is he? if they have been in since 7.30 they will have had an early breakfast so kind of makes sense. I'd send in the 'snack' and then give him a normal snack instead of lunch.

I'm guessing your in Germany, it's not normal in the UK.

Thanks.

Ds will be almost 2.5 years when he goes. He will be able to eat breakfast 7.30-8am at home beforehand. And like I say although he’s booked for 5.5 hrs, he will probably only go for 3hrs the first year or so

I don’t mind taking the snack, nursery is very cheap and subsided here.
Just seems large. I guess I will have to just think of some alternative lunch ideas to try and change it around, or give smaller breakfast, and some of breakfast into ‘snack’

We have to provide a snack also, my little boy is quite fussy so it's usually an apple peeled and cut, apple and melon, cheese and crackers, sometimes a mini malt loaf, or Cucumber and carrot sticks.

Surely he will just eat the amount he needs ? At that age il doubt he'l eat half of what is put infront of him.

Caspianberg · 07/05/2022 16:45

@Bedsheets4knickers - possibly. But I also assume if everyone else is eating he will also eat.
I just don’t think he needs x4 ‘meals’ a day, but maybe nursery/ officials do, and maybe I should be giving more at home? It’s a minefield. He doesn’t seem hungry

Ask the nursery? I will say that DD eats far more at nursery than at home, we get reports of her cleaning her plate and having seconds and thirds, but at home she seems able to subside on half a cucumber slice and giggling. Nursery is really tiring and they do tons of activities and lots of stimulation: I think they get hungrier there than at home.
