18mo refusing to be put down

My 18mo usually independent happy DS has suddenly started refusing to be put down. Unless myself or DH are holding him (stood up) he throws the most almighty tantrums. Obviously we are trying not to give in but it means enduring hours long screaming.

Has anyone been through anything similar? What caused it, was it a phase, how long did it last?

I should say distraction not working!

My ds wasn't like this but I've looked after kids that were. Continue with distraction and whatever you are busy with. If they want to have a tantrum then let them crack on.

How long has it been going on? Is he unwell, teething? My DD was exactly like that when getting her molars.

It’s been about a week now. He was sick just over a week ago (we all were) with Norovirus but he got over it very quickly. Not teething. We’ve just had another morning of screaming from the second we got him up (cause he didn’t want his nappy changed) until he’s gone off in the car to his nana and grandpas house (and is probably still screaming in the car now - poor DH). He was an angel yesterday for PIL so it’s just us he’s doing it for.
