Baby cold sore or pimple? Help!

So I got a cold sore straight after I gave birth. Didn't kiss the baby as I know how dangerous it is. Told my partner to not kiss me. Treated my cold sores which have now gone, constantly washing my hands ect. Woke up this morning bad my 11 day old baby has a little red spot near her lip and I am freaking out. Was sobbing my heart out this morning worried sick, Googling all kinds. I don't know if I should take her to be seen. I'm a first time mum so everything is just really worrying me😣

Sorry you're worried about this. Could you pop to a pharmacy to ask what they think?

KangarooKenny · 01/05/2022 07:26

Yes it looks like one.

Aww poor baba!!! Can you go to a chemist? Asda are usually open on Sundays
I'd pop a little sudocrem on first (my answer to everything tbh)

I've just rang my maternity triage and they've said because she's feeding normally, she's not acting different to just keep an eye on it if it gets worse or she acts different or more pop up to ring back or they'll get someone out to me. I'm honestly beside with worry😖 they've said it could be a little sucking blister. But I'm going to keep an eye on her today like a hawk

I am no expert but (from my own Googling a fairly long time ago) I think that the first time a child gets the cold sore virus it manifests as viral infection rather than an actual sore? It might be worth reading up on it. And if you normally get cold sores baby should have some antibodies from you for the first few months. So it may not end up being one, try not to panic!

@Sundayrain thankfully it wasn't/isn't a cold sore. Rang 111, they asked questions and treated it as a skin problem rather than a lip problem, was referred to my local walk in and from my answers they weren't concerned enough to bring her in. This morning it's completely gone, so I think it must of been the first answer of a milk blister

When 2 of mine for their first cokd sites it was like hand foot and mouth, they had sky high temps and three inside of their mouths/throats were covered in ulcers, it was so awful. They were 18m and nearly 3, we were on holiday and they lived on ice poles.

One of them went on to have frequent cold sores, the other has had nothing since.

That's great, must be such a relief!

That's good.

((HUG))

when you've got a newborn for the first time loads of things are worrying. It does get easier x.

ask away though, there'll always be someone here to help!

have you done a paediatric first aid? I do them for work & parents in the course are always well regarded & helped! Now with half being online it's only one day & would give you some. Incidence with the everyday things.
