Hey everyone at the family home and my toddler who is 1yrs old and brother who is 14yrs old was playing he was spinning my sons round my his arms fast but not that fast but it was fast enough that when he put him down he was very dizzy that he went on the floor

This was like over 20mins ago however I think he's still kinda dizzy maybe I'm over reacting

He is acting like his normal self

I read somewhere that not just shaking a baby physically can cause shaken syndrome

What makes you think he is still dizzy after 20 mons? That's worrying. No one can say if it can cause shaken baby because we did not witness how vigorous he spun him. A gentle twirl is fine but spinning a baby till they are dizzy and fall is not good and quite cruel even if it doesn't cause lasting issues. Tell him not to do this again.

No, not from what you describe.

If he's still dizzy after 20 minutes I'd say that's quite bad. Is he acting confused, or responding normally when you talk to him? Don't want to alarm you but Google the signs of concussion in toddlers to see if he could have it

If he's acting like his normal self what are you worried about?

Suzi888 · 27/04/2022 20:06

But as pp state, he could if dizzy hit his head/vomit.

No. Shaken baby syndrome is a result of violent shaking. You couldn't do it accidentally when playing.

Toddlers are always wobbly so you can't really tell when they are dizzy. It is not a good idea to spin children around by their arms, though, because their elbows can get very easily dislocated.

@womaniswomaniswoman because they say sometimes you won't notice right away

So your toddler was spun around and is now fine?

I think you are probably worrying over nothing. Shaken baby syndrome is often described as the equivalent of being in a car crash. Not spun around by a playful sibling.
