11mo won’t pick up food

We did traditional weaning with DS, so mostly spoon feeding with some finger foods mixed in. Over the months we’ve introduced more and more finger food and now he isn’t spoon fed at all. The issue is he won’t pick up food himself. If I hand him food he will take it from me and gladly eat it. He has no issues chewing or swallowing. He will pick up some food sometimes but there doesn’t seem to be a pattern. We eat together and I show him what to do but he won’t do it. How do I overcome this? DH says we should go cold turkey with giving him the food but I think that’s harsh!

I have no advice for you, but you are certainly doing better than me. My DD is a 12 months old, no teeth, doesn’t chew, gags at anything that has a lump init, won’t pick anything up and put it in her mouth. We have tried everything. We are onto textured stuff now and she eats what we eat (hers is blended with water or milk) but anytime we introduce more lumps or anything she is sick and gags…. It will come I’m sure, we’ll that’s what we have been told anyway. Keep doing what your doing and encourage.
