Breastfeeding - did leakage during pregnancy indicate supply?

Hi all, pregnant and currently 27 weeks. I have read in the symptoms for weeks now that breasts should be leaking some milk. I haven’t had this at all and was wondering from your experience does this indicate potential issue with supply?

I’m having a c-section so I know there can be delays in supply with that so with no leaking either I’m wondering if I should be prepared for no supply.

Thanks!

Hello. I had no leakage whatsoever in either pregnancy. Also never really leaked when the babies were born! I never used breast pads. I also could never get more than 10mls out at a time when pumping. To read some of the stuff online you’d think I had no milk whatsoever, yet I exclusively breastfed two children, the first to 13 months and the second to 18 months. The only reliable indicator of milk supply is a growing baby with the right no of wet and dirty nappies.

No leaking in pregnancy. Breastfed my DD until 21 months. Born on the 50th centile she climbed up to the 90th centile just on breastmilk 🙂 like pp didn't really leak milk at all after a couple of weeks post partum but Def had no issue with supply!

I had exactly the same - no leakage, struggled to pump, but the. exclusively breastfed 3ds until they were 15months.

I had c-sections with all of them. Took a while to establish with ds1 and 2 but no problems with ds3

No leakage, no evidence of milk post delivery. No formula used just fed constantly post delivery. Each time went for a nap on day 3 or 5 and awoke engorged. Exclusively bf for 12+ plus with no supply issues.

Hi, I had lots of leakage in pregnancy but after birth no milk at all. Same in my first pregnancy.
I had a C-section with my second, induction with my first. I just never got any milk after giving birth.

DramaAlpaca · 24/04/2022 12:53

No leakage in pregnancy whatsoever and had no problems breastfeeding.

winniesanderson · 24/04/2022 12:53

No leakage before or after the first few days after my milk came in. Found it tricky to get much out when pumping. But fed my eldest until 3 months and my youngest until 2.

KitKatKit · 24/04/2022 13:16

No leakage during pregnancy and minimal after, breastfed until 19 months!

MadameDragon · 24/04/2022 13:18

Zero leakage, great supply for 3 years.

Favourodds · 24/04/2022 13:24

Ah, I remember stressing about this when pregnant too.

Never leaked, EBF with no bother, baby went from 35th - 50th centile in her first month (and carried on to the 75th lol). Don't fret!

KangarooKenny · 24/04/2022 13:25

I had no leakage in any of my pregnancies, and could have fed twins !

WalkingOnSonshine · 24/04/2022 13:26

No leakage at all, but I had an oversupply - ended up donating 5l to the milk bank.

I was easily getting 150mls on one side just with the Haakaa in 5 minutes.

Mommabear20 · 24/04/2022 13:28

I leaked sooo much leakage with my first but then milk never came in after she was born.

megletthesecond · 24/04/2022 13:30

No leakage in either pregnancy. Loads when I started pumping.

TheChurchOfEli · 24/04/2022 13:30

Some leakage in pregnancy, vaginal birth, low supply 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s a mystery lol

DivorcedAndDelighted · 24/04/2022 13:33

No. I never had any leakage during any of my pregnancies. Had a good supply for all children - of course during days 1-3 we all worry with the first baby but I could see he was getting colostrum. I went on to attend a breastfeeding support group for years, trained as a supporter, and honestly I think leakage during pregnancy is unusual and certainly no indicator of future supply. Same for being able to express colostrum in pregnancy - no relation at all to your future supply.

Magicfeet11 · 24/04/2022 13:38

I had no leakage and wasn't able to breast feed at all. But add to that my breasts never changed during pregnancy - never got larger or heavy, milk never came in, baby 1 refused to latch, baby 2 tried for a bit but then gave up, pumping unsuccessful. I spent a fortune on lactation consultants to no effect.
Have just accepted that clearly it wasn't something my body was able to do!

Fupoffyagrasshole · 24/04/2022 13:42

Not a drop while I was pregnant and then had a massive oversupply problem after baby was born 🤷‍♀️

Pbbananabagel · 24/04/2022 14:02

No leakage but successfully bf my toddler till 15months and still feeding my 10 month old, and I had C sections both times. With my first it was an emergency section and I had trouble latching him on so I started pumping day 1 to bring my milk on faster and it really helped - take your own pump to the hospital and you can use it a couple of times a day the week before your due date too to stimulate the flow.

Garman · 24/04/2022 16:46

Leakage means nothing, it's literally just determined by the width of your milk ducts. I never leaked in pregnancy and have successfully breastfed 3 children to 2+ years.

PlayGIBluff · 24/04/2022 18:15

Thanks all so much for your replies. I won’t worry yet then!!! Good mix of what happened for who!

its interesting some struggled to pump but not to feed. I guess time will tell.

No. Two c sections, no leakage during either pregnancy, had buckets of milk.

findingsomeone · 24/04/2022 18:17

No, I didn't leak at all in pregnancy. I did express colostrum and was quite successful when I tried. I overproduce milk and it took a long time to settle down and even out. I have a friend who could express nothing in pregnancy and her supply has been pretty perfect.

Shmithecat2 · 24/04/2022 18:18

Nope. Didn't leak during pregnancy. Didn't leak whilst bfing ds. Couldn't even pump 3oz in a day! But ds was still happily ebfd.

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/04/2022 18:20

No leakage but successfully breastfed 2 children for 10 months and 16 months.
