My DD has just turned 4 and is really shy. She likes playing with our friends’ kids who she knows well but hasn’t yet made any proper friends at pre-school though she’s been there since September. She hadn’t been in any kind of childcare before then and didn’t really mix with any other children from the age of 18 months-3 (because a close family member who we lived with was shielding during covid).
I’m conscious she’s starting school in September so want to help her build up her confidence over the next few months as her preschool haven’t been much help so far. I’m arranging 1-1 play dates with some children who I know will be going to her new school, and going to see if she’d like to start some weekend clubs.
does anyone have any other advice, or could reassure me about their own shy children finding their feet at school?
