A few more Bumgenius questions ....!!!

Hiya

I've just received my 20 Bumgenius V2 and now I've got to stuff the damn things!!! You may not this is a problem but the feel of the insert on my hands is making me cringe slightly, but I can do it!

How do I make it easier as I'm finding it a bit fiddly, I presume I will get the hang of it eventually?

I've got a little girl, do I put the folded down bit on the insert bottom end or front end?

When I put them on her the fleecy liner comes out over the top, am I doing something wrong?

Are they good enough for overnight use and do you put a doubler in, if yes which ones? And where is the best place to get the doublers from?

Thanks in advance for your replies, I promise I will leave you all alone after these have been answered .............??

Willow

I've only got 1 so hopefully someone with more experience can answer more fully.

With the folded down bit, I always find that DD is wettest towards the front anyway (bottom end always dry), so I always put the folded bit at the front for as long as I was folding over.

With regards the fleece sticking out, there should be a flap that goes over the slit to hold it in (like an envelope) or you just need to push the inner pad in further.

I bought a hemp booster from somewhere (I can't recall where). This extends the absorbancy a little but I personally wouldn't use them overnight without more boosting. Without the hemp booster on DD, they would last maybe 2-3 hours depending on what time of day she's wearing it (big wees in the morning/early afternoon, not so much late afternoons).

I agree, front folded down - experiment, may depend on how she sleeps and such. Stuffign is sooooooooo theraputic and gets easier in time depending onthe size of your hands lol! The microfibre cringiness wears off after a few washes so hang on in there! If you stuff the nappy holding the insert to the top then kind of stretch it out and put it on the fleecey bit shouldnt really hang over the top but i cant say i have ever noticed that happening with mine before , when your stretching it round to fit snug dont grab the insert as well, pretend its a sposie and forget the insert when putting it on and see if that helps the fit. I think im talking twaddle but i know what i mean. . You cant go much wrong there anyway. Have fun!

I have only ever gone overnight stuffung with a bamboo insert aswell as not familiar with doubler so hopefully someone who knows about that will come along.... I find two parters better for night....

I used to have the fleece over at the front with the V1 - one of the reasons I was so anti them. I haven't had a problem with the V2, but DS is on the bigger size now

Can anyone help with Bumgenius / Bum genius info?

I'm thinking of using Bumgenius nappies but am a little confused by the washing instructions on the web. Do you really need to put them through two different wash cycles each time (one page suggested three!)? It doesn't sound very economical. And if anyone could tell me how quickly they dry on the line or on an airer I'd be really grateful.

Nappyzone · 27/03/2008 21:34

Which bumgenius ?? are we talking pocket onesize nappy as they are washed by me as follows:

  1. cold rinse (takes about 12 mins)
  2. 40 degree normal wash cycle
  3. hang on the line on a sunny day / dryer/ radiator

On a rad they are dry overnight if rad comes on in am for say 2 hrs. On an airer inside in a day also- pocket drys in a couple of hrs, insert takes longer.

On a sunny hot day - a couple of hrs but its that long since we have had one!

Hope that helps

Ooh, this is my original post!!

I've been using Bumgenius for months now and love them, I wash them on a 60 degree wash, with one Fairy tablet, no fabric softener and put it on super rinse and they come out spotless everytime!

I think you might be confused with the instructions for first time you wash them before you actually use them? If you wash them at least a couple of times before they even get used it increases the absorption on the inserts, I can honestly say apart from once or twice I have never had any leaks, the leak was because my hubby didn't change DD frequently enough when he was in charge! Oh and a few explosions because we used liners which just channels the poo up her back! Soon stopped using them!

I haven't dried mine on the line or airer yet but tumble dry for 40 mins, I have heard they will dry overnight though on a radiator or airer? Looking forward to some windy dry days though so I can get them on the line outside!

I bought one nappy of ebay to try it out for about £9 and then bought 20 of them because I loved them so much! With 20 I only have to wash every third day which I think is great?

Yes, it was the pocket nappy I was talking about and that has really helped. Many thanks!

Nappyzone · 28/03/2008 08:17

Fab - i never bothered washing mine at first as the absorbancy doesnt really differ with microterry inserts - its more to wash any residue of in the manufacturig process. Im to impatient for all that lol!

piggyp · 28/03/2008 10:48

Soory for hijack but v useful thread - I'm 2 weeks into using my bumgenius v3 and getting on well.

I thought you had to wash them at 60 to get rid of 'nasties' (germs etc) though?

DD seems to soak the newborn insert v quickly - what size do they need to be before using the big insert? She's 7lbs 11 now.

ChristinePlushPants · 28/03/2008 21:30

I am contemplating stocking these, but not sure which of their range everyone prefers, and also apart from Mother-ease I've avoided stocking products made in the USA due to air miles - is this nappy really worth it? I am interested to know - it sounds like you all love them so perhaps that's a silly question. If you have tried other nappy systems I'd be interested to know how they compare, either here or you can e-mail me: [email protected]

Willowwisp · 29/03/2008 19:24

Christine - I initially tried Tots Bots and hated them, what a fiddle!! Did loads of research on the net and came up with Bumgenius, I love them! And my hubby does to, even our new childminder is willing to use them so they must be easy!

One of the main reasons I went for Bumgenius was how slimline they are compared to other nappies (dd trousers wouldn't fit over tots bots but will over bumgenius) and they are just like using a sposie, oh and the cute factor had something to do with it as I got mine in pink!

I've only got the V2's so can't comment on the V3's, so if anyone is selling a V3 cheap I will buy it to try it out!!

Sounds good, have you ever used the Nature Babies Diddy Diapers? They are slim on the hips as well and made in the UK (not cute colours though - but their wraps are fab).
