6 year old wants a buggy on holiday

We are going on holiday in July and my 6 year old wants to take a buggy. Pre Covid we went there each year so she is well aware of the walking, the hills and the heat etc. I personally feel she is too old hasn’t been in one since 3. I did however think if she had a sibling and went in their buggy nobody, including me, would bat an eyelid. I told her she probably wouldn’t fit but she has asked to get it out the loft to try 😂 I’m concerned that she will meet a school friend on holiday and be ridiculed. I’m really torn as the hotel we stay in is up a big hill and I know how tiring the walking can be for them after a crazy day at the pool and in the heat. Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on this. I wouldn’t even consider it but since we booked last year she keeps asking.

Shes far too old.

AlternativePerspective · 20/04/2022 22:25

Absolutely not.

I would just say no. It wouldn’t be up for discussion.

Travellingraspberry · 20/04/2022 22:25

No I'd say she's too old. Plus could you physically manage to push her up a hill in a buggy? I struggle with my 3 year old 😅

If she isn't capable of walking take a wheel chair. If she is capable of walking make her walk!

Janedoe82 · 20/04/2022 22:26

Nope.

MsTSwift · 20/04/2022 22:27

You will need to be flipping strong to push a buggy with an enormous 6 year old in it up a hill!

FairyCakeWings · 20/04/2022 22:27

She is too old, but I’d humour her anyway and let her feel how big she is for the buggy. Make a big deal out of how much stronger her legs are since she last went.

Tinks15 · 20/04/2022 22:27

Yes she technically should be managing without one now, does the place your going to hire pushchairs out? You could give it a few days to see how she gets on if not hire one?

Then you haven’t got to lug your pushchair wherever it is your going!

mondler · 20/04/2022 22:28

Could she take a fold up scooter or anything like that? Is a taxi an option if the walk is too far?

TrippinEdBalls · 20/04/2022 22:28

I don't think it's true that 'no one would bat an eyelid' at a six year old going in a younger sibling's buggy - she surely won't even fit?!

Macaroni1924 · 20/04/2022 22:29

🤣 cool as I thought. Just felt I was being unfair on her. She is more than capable of walking and regularly goes on big walks. When I thought about older siblings jumping in their siblings buggy I felt bad. I have a real guilt about her being an only child.

Also I highly doubt I would be able to push her uphill was hoping that was a job for dad/Grandad lol

Fold up scooter.. Ds took an electric one to Spain once. I used it to get to the campsite take away which was the opposite side!!
And I was quite pregnant!!
😆

MsTSwift · 20/04/2022 22:30

I would assume a disability if I saw a child that old in a buggy

Smartiepants79 · 20/04/2022 22:31

Scooter is a great idea and what we did with ours for a few years.

JamSandwich89 · 20/04/2022 22:31

6 is far too old to be in a buggy IMO. I'd like a buggy too for going up big hills haha but there comes a point when we all have to accept our buggy days are gone 😂😂

TheFairyCaravan · 20/04/2022 22:32

She’s too old. If she’s too tired to walk up the hill at the end of the day give her a shoulder ride or a piggyback.

This is a good idea. The only buggy we have left is the holiday one which was tiny so I’m not sure she would even fit! I think she associates holidays with a buggy because she wasn’t in one at home then was on holiday but she was only 3 then lol

id say shes too old baf habits-saw someone online doing this with their kid it wa sliterally as soon as theyd left their hotel-she admits shes too soft on her

ReadyToMoveIt · 20/04/2022 22:33

I can’t even imagine my 6 year old in a buggy, and she has never got in her younger sibling’s buggy (was 3.5 when he was born). Just wouldn’t occur to her!

Yes! This is a great idea she has one of those so will possibly help divert her

It depends where you are going! Maybe her memories are of steep hills and too much walking! Nothing worse than a tired hot little person!
