Bottle with straw

Morning everyone.

My lo, who's 13 months, loves to drink out of a bottle with a straw.

Is this OK? As I thought it needed to be open? Free flow, etc

Thank you

They do need to learn to drink from a cup, tipping it up, as it is an important skill to have.

So whilst I think there is nothing harmful about a straw per se, but maybe you could use the free flow cup e.g. 'we always use this cup when we are in the pushchair' or 'we always use this cup for milk' .

I remember reading that cups with a straw are not as good for the teeth 🤷🏻‍♀️ but maybe you could have one for fun drinks, like juice.

She can drink from a cup too, but much prefers the bottle with straw, loves carrying it around. We do all tend to all drink out of a water bottle with straw. I'm not sure why just what we always done.

She quite happily drinks from a 360 cup or open cup when her brother and sister aren't around, but when there around its bottle with a straw.

I would not be worried about it personally then, just keep on using the open cup when she will.

That's absolutely fine, give her opportunities to practice out of an open cup maybe with meals at home for example? Other than that it's fine. We used straw cups a lot with our eldest around that age too.

Great, thank you. She doesn't get on with the valve ones, i have tried several and have loads now. I decided just going to buy a standard bottle with straw 😆

Straw cups are all the rage in America due to lobbying by speech therapists Confused

They have to have something contained until they are coordinated enough not to knock open cups over every 5 minutes. They all get there in the end though! We let them practice with open cups in the bath. You'll know when the balance tips from it being more annoying to clean up constant spills to it being more annoying to clean the straws.
