Eye colour changes

Hi mamas/dadas,

Just wanted to ask about your baby's changing eye colour.

My BB is 3mos on Monday. He was born with blue-grey eyes that I know are going to change. I feel the blue is too dark to be blue so we are expecting it to turn a darker colour of hazel or brown.

Posting a photo of his eye. Two days ago I noticed both eyes now have this brown spot on the bottom of his irises.

How did your baby's eyes turn from newborn blue to another colour? Was it sudden? Gradual? Did it start like mine with a dot?

Thanks, mamas/dadas

My son's went brown at about 3 months as well and it was gradual. He was born with very dark eyes anyway - not quite blue, more grey, but I noticed them going brown and got so excited 😂 they changed in sort of patches?

I know this sounds impossible but my sons eyes turned green when he was two. I have pictures of him as a toddler with piercing light blue eyes

My DS had dark dark eyes when he was born and by 9 months they were such a light blue. It happened gradually, at first little glimpses of blue in the sunlight only then getting more and more obvious

Snap! DS went from having striking light blue eyes to green practically overnight. Or at least, I didn’t notice it happening, suddenly they just were. Also age 2.

My eyes changed at some point - not exactly sure when but they were very dark brown when I was little, and by the time I was about 14 they were (still are) green.

One of my sisters eyes change when she is really rundown or sick (dark brown to green). Eyes are weird, huh?

DD's too! But not as early as 2. It was far more gradual. I have a large photo of her at around 18 months on our wall with the blondest blonde hair & brightest blue eyes. She now (11) has green/grey eyes and dark blonde hair.

Both my children went green at about two and a half and both seemed to be overnight

Sleepyquest · 16/04/2022 18:45

I've noticed the same today in my 2mo! My DD eyes changed constantly until about 2 yrs old

Nothing useful to add but wanted to comment on what a stunning pic that is of your LOs eye! Very artistic shot.

My son has brown eyes with darker brown sectoral heterochromia in one eye. It was really clear when he was a baby because he had blue eyes but now you can barely tell. They just darkened gradually. Weirdly his dad has greeny-hazel eyes and I have blue eyes so I was surprised he ended up with brown eyes - my high school biology classes taught me that was impossible though I know now that’s not the case.

FluffyPinkSocks · 16/04/2022 18:52

One of my dc had blue eyes at birth, one eye turned brown at 18 months. I thought she had heterachromia but her other eye turned brown at the age of 3!

Rumdiddly · 16/04/2022 18:56

My little girl went from dark blue to brown but didn't start until she was 2!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/04/2022 19:22

My DD had piercing blue eyes when she was a baby. I can't remember exactly when they changed. I think between 1 and 2 but they are now like mine, hazel and sometimes more green than other times.

Thank you very much :) photography is my little side gig so I use my LO as a model quite often haha

Both me and my hubby got light brown eyes so we are expecting our LO to have brown eyes as well.... Although both our dads have light eyes. Now that I see those brown spots in his eyes, I think they will definitely change to brown. It's just kind of cool to see how it happens. In your case I do think it's rare if parents have light eyes for their baby to have dark...but of course not impossible :) my friends both have dark brown eyes and both their boys have bright blue!

Oh wow, isn't that interesting! So for a while your girl had different colour eyes? So cool!

My first - eyes were blue. Now green. Weirdly changed when she was at least one.
Second had the darkest brown eyes since the day she was born.

Change123today · 16/04/2022 21:58

Mine were all blue at birth, but none are blue now. I can’t say I noticed them changing, just suddenly realised they had changed.

So you didn't get these spots that my son seems to be getting?
