Thoughts?
Personally, I don't like it and prefer Jane. A good, solid name with substance. Or am I being boring?

Go with Djehn.

The fact that you have had to detail the pronunciation in the thread title tells you pretty clearly that it is not a great idea.

EV117 · 09/04/2022 15:41

Bog standard name spelled in a ‘kree8tiv’ way = parents were plonkers

I like the simplicity of it. The spelling Jhayne is bad. Just stick with Jane.

In a sea of Amelias, Olivias, Gabriela's, Isabellas and Sofias, Jane stands out.

But NOT if you start messing with it.

EV117 · 09/04/2022 15:45

Names from my class in the 60s are due a comeback. Jane, Clare, Amanda, Sally, Nicola, Mary. All are lovely but rarely used now.

Don’t you mean Cleyre, Amhander, Salliegh and Nycollah?

PoshWatchShitShoes · 09/04/2022 15:47

I'd think that Jane's parents are illiterate if threw in the "h" 😂

EV117 · 09/04/2022 15:48

Oh and ‘Mairi’ of course…

It’s the same name. It sounds as bog standard as the original spelling when you say it out loud, so why?? If you want to be original pick an actual original sounding name. I don’t get it.

Horcruxe · 09/04/2022 15:50

That's a hindu boy name- jhayne

DFOD · 09/04/2022 15:55

People might read it as J. Hayne

Missey85 · 09/04/2022 16:00

Don't spell it like that the poor kid will forever have to spell it out if you like the name spell it right Smile Thiers no need to mess with it

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 09/04/2022 16:08

I think any name with a mis-spelling is pretentious. Jane itself is old-fashioned and uninteresting.

larkstar · 09/04/2022 16:18

My wife is a Jane and we've known very few Jane's and only one Jayne. Isn't the attempt to make my precious child unique through a unique name a very outdated trend now - it's being going on for 20 odd years hasn't it? I don't know why so many people focus on spelling - surely names should stand out for the way they sound - a nice name has a nice sound - so spelling Jane with a silent h is pointless isn't it? There are far too many other things worth investing your time and effort in as a parent to nurture your child instead of turning their name into a source of problems. Look for the story of the woman that became irate that people had to stifle a smirk on hearing that she had named her daughter "abcde" - pronounced - according to the mother - as "Ab-sidy" - poor kid!

There are many different good and valid reasons to name your child but contrived spellings to my mind, are embarrassing and unfashionable. Just keep it simple and avoid names such as Hazel Nutt, Theresa Green, Rose Bush, Daisy Picker, Justin Case, Paige Turner, etc.

Jayne says aged between 55 and 65
Like Heather

Whatwouldnanado · 09/04/2022 16:29

Awful, sorry. Stick to Jane.

caulkheaded · 09/04/2022 16:30

Is it def Jane? Like others I would assume jer-har-new/nay

Neverreturntoathread · 09/04/2022 16:37

Hate it. Jayne is nice but Jhayne looks ridiculous and like it should be pronounced differently.

liveforsummer · 09/04/2022 16:49

My brain is pronouncing it Ji- hayne 😆

lemongreentea · 09/04/2022 17:06

Poor thing will spend a lifetime spelling it out for people. Just no.

SunshineAndFizz · 09/04/2022 17:07

Awful. I will never understand why people add extra letters just to feel their kids are 'unique'. Poor kids will have to spell/pronounce their name forever, unnecessary torture.

Stravaig · 09/04/2022 17:10

Jayne is the male version of Jane to me, so I'd assume Jhayne is just a fancy spelling, for a boy.

JaninaDuszejko · 09/04/2022 17:23

Mairi is Gaelic and not pronounced the same as Mary in English.
SmellyNelliey · 09/04/2022 17:24

My DD (5) is Mary-Jayne and everybody spells it Mary-Jane

Soontobe60 · 09/04/2022 17:26

@Hoppinggreen

Maybe spell it Gaeyenne?
Sounds too much like gynae cologist
