2 y/o in double bed?

We’ve just moved house and a big advantage is the large room our DS has! As he’s getting a bit older and has a bigger room we discussed getting him a small double/double bed.

My mum mentioned it’s a good idea and she did this with me and my brother. So any nights we needed lots of comfort or were unwell her or my dad would just get into bed with us and it saved us wanting to get into their bed!

However, when we mentioned this to MIL she said we’re spoiling him and he won’t be secure in that bed and he needs his cot bed?

I’m a bit torn I did think it’d be a good idea for reasons my mum stated. Also it would make his room seem less huge, a toddler bed would be a tiny part of the room it’d seem too big!

And we are expecting baby 2 end of this year (haven’t told anyone as I’m only 8 weeks) so we discussed keeping his cot bed for baby 2 and getting him into a bed?

Thoughts please is it too much for our 2 year old??

My 2 year old has slept in a single adult bed since he was 15 months! He hated the bars and has slept so much better since! His bed pulls out into a double and it's perfect if they are ill etc! Go for it!

We did this with DS from him being just under 2. He loves his big bed and it’s useful for all the reasons you mention, particularly when he’s ill. Ignore MIL

My DD has a double. It's brilliant, so much more flexible, we can use it for guests, we can easily sleep in with her or have cuddles, get in beside her and read, etc.

DD hated the cot but has slept in a proper bed since she was 1. We did have a toddler bed but it's so small, I couldn't get in easily with her to cuddle, and most importantly she couldn't fit in all her soft toys Grin

Yes Double bed

I think a pull out double would be better.:

  • more floor space for playing
  • considerably less washing
  • double availability if needed

I got my 3 year old a small double from Dreams with storage under and it’s the best purchase.
So much comfier to lie and read stories, and if they are ill etc. Plus will last for years. I love it!

I think it is an unnecessary waste of cash and space getting a double, plus when they are older really what they want is a bed with a truckle underneath so friends can stay, but if you have the room it is up to you.

My children both went straight into king sized beds aged 2. They loved all the extra room for teddies and toys.

Spoiling him? 😂 It’s a bed. And this is none of your mums business.

Double all the way, they can fit all their cuddlies in.

It’s not a waste of money, it will be needed as they get older. Mine never wanted a truckle bed for friends, they just all crammed in the double. Truckle underneath double for overflow.
