Formula/ cows milk / off tummy

Just looking for some advice please! My son is 14 months old.

When my son was first born he had quite a sensitive stomach to normal formula. The doctor suggested I try a comfort formula which worked well for us.

I slowly moved him onto the follow on formula at around 8 months and his tummy seemed to cope well with that.

I have introduced cows milk through a variety of things for quite some time now, cheese, yoghurt, a bit in his sippy cup etc... All of which he's seemed to cope with fine.

Anyway, now he's 14 months I wanted to slowly remove the formula so he's been having 150ml of cows milk in the evening before bed and a normal formula in the morning (he's not had a bottle in the day for ages, only evening and morning he still has).

Anyway, it seems to have sent his tummy way off again and his poos are a lot looser and more frequent.

I know he doesn't need much milk anymore anyway but he does enjoy it at bedtime, would it be worth trying another sort of milk in the evening? Almond or something and then having his normal formula in the morning until we can eventually move more slowly onto cows milk for both?

Is this a really stupid idea? He'd still be getting cows milk in other forms (small amounts in cup, cheese, yoghurt and in his morning formula) but just so he can enjoy the evening bottle without it sending his tummy off whack.

Sorry my HV is none existent basically so asking here!

If you are going to use an alternative milk it needs to be forfeited with calcium, vitamin D and idoine. Alpro do oat and soya growing up milk, oatley barista or m and s oat milk are suitable. Rice milk isn’t suitable for under 5s. Almond milk tends to be lower calorie.

It took me a long time to get my DD off of formula and onto cows milk. I done the ‘mix-it’ method, e.g 2oz cows milk 4oz formula and upped the cows milk after a week or so. Even when she finally was on full cows milk it took a few weeks for her stomach settle.

Bearing in mind I started the transition at 17 months old and didn’t fully stop the formula until she was 20 months. I tried several times between 12-17 months but it never worked - got there in the end though.
