Struggling with naps

Ds (15 months) has always been impossible to get off to sleep again if something wakes him from a nap during the day.

Yesterday he nodded off in the car on the way to somewhere and woke up at 11, about a thirty minute nap. I tried twice to get him back down for an afternoon nap but he refused, so he was beside himself with exhaustion by bedtime.

Now the same has happened, but this time he woke at 945. So I know he won’t go down for another nap until around half two at the earliest … arghh.

Does anyone else have this with a car sleeper? I am suspecting the only answer is not to go out until after he’s had his nap.

Not 100% clear on the question. Is he waking up from first nap early and then not resettling? If so i think this is pretty normal. It’s because their sleep drive has been settled just enough.
What’s waking him up? The journey in the car ending?
