Potty training help needed

Please help me potty train my (just) 3 year old.

He will pee in the potty if I pop him on there when he needs to go. He generally won’t ask for it or indicate a need to pee; very occasionally he will bring the potty when he needs.

He will actively hold it if he needs to poop. Won’t stay on the potty. He likes to have a nappy on and to go hide in a corner to do his business.

I’m trying really hard not to stress about it, but as he clearly knows when he needs to go and he can hold it I’d like to get this sorted.

Have you read any books?

Get the Oh Crap book

You need to go cold turkey. No more nappies in the day. He might make a fuss but persevere. You’ll have some accidents but just calmly deal with those and loads and loads of praise any time he sits on potty.
Things that worked for our son which ‘the books’ say not to do, but we potty trained our son in 5 days so clearly worked.
Chocolate button every time he used the potty. (And once potty training clearly finished we somehow ran out of them. He stopped asking after a day or two.)
When doing a poo let him watch his favourite programme on tv or your phone. Again, once established this can be withdrawn.

Maybe try encouraging him to sit on the potty whilst wearing his nappy and poo in that. When he’s happy with this step, place a nappy in the bottom of the potty and encourage him to do a poo this way - get him involved in flushing the poo away so he sees where it goes. When he’s confident with this method, gradually move the nappy a little bit further out of the potty every couple of days until he’s pooing in the potty itself.
