constipation??

nine week old seems to strain a lot throughout the day. he has a poop every two days, but strains quite a lot a day, if not more before this. have tried giving water to help constipation, colief to break down lactose in milk, have changed formulas. but nothing seems to help?

i guess it's not much of an issue if he is going every two days, and the consistency isn't worrying, but should i be worried about all the straining? he cries and seems to be in pain when a couple hours go by. his stomach goes hard and he won't let anyone touch it without falling into a fit of tears and screams.

any advice on what i can do???

My 7 week old has days like this where she can scream in pain, legs up and stomach rock hard. I find massaging helps a little, also tummy time seems to help. Also do colic drops in all bottles and I'm not sure if it's just coincidence but the last few times she's been bad I have given her some gripe water and she then poo's within the hour but as gripe water is more for gas it could just be a massive coincidence! It's horrible seeing them like it so understand your pain!

it really is horrible. i'm gonna try the gripe water, only really have tried it for gas and it really helps! i've tried massaging his tummy and tummy time, but when he's in pain both of these seem to only worsen it???

going to try colic drops in all bottles hopefully breaks down the milk better!! thank you and hope your little one gets better with this too!

Sounds like infant dyschezia which is developmental normal. Is he bf/ff? Is the consistency definitely normal for a baby?

ff, occasionally bf but i'd say 90% ff. and consistency is definitely normal!!

Agree with PP, sounds like infant dyschezia. Should get better around 12 weeks.

My little boy is the same! He’s 8 weeks. We’ve tried infacol which seemed to make him worse, screaming in discomfort with his tummy! Tried gripe water, works ok for getting wind up but he has gone as long as a week without pooing! We’ve now moved onto comfort milk to see if this helps him, he’s been on it since Sunday and so far he’s had 2 poos. It’s horrible not being able to do anything for them and open to any advice please mamas! Do colief drops work? X

i can't entirely speak if colief works or not, the few times i've used it, seems like he doesn't strain as much could be it break down the lactose in the milk better?? but he still goes 2/3 days without a poop at times. usually not a week, but all babies are different. what i've read is, offering a ready made bottle of the same brand might help. i'm not sure what the reason is, could be the composition is slightly adapted for it to last a longer time, but often helps sit better in their little tummy, i'd suggest that?? it's a horrible feeling! i noticed with comfort milk, my little one was pooping green! he was pooping more often, straining a lot less, but it left him a lot more hungry, had to change from aptamil comfort to the normal aptamil
