Baby not mimicking

Hi
My baby boy had a stroke at age 5 weeks he almost didn't make it. He is here and that is the main thing and for that I am so so blessed. It was pretty much as bad as it could be without him dying it affected not only his brain but his spine too. They said he would be paralysed from the waist down.
Anyway he proved them all wrong and has done everything that they said he wouldn't. He is now 8months old has a left sided hemiplegia which we are doing lots and lots of physio for. The only thing is he doesn't mimic me or his dad. I'm not naive enough to think he won't have any lasting damage and disabilities but I'd just like to know if this is normal for his age? Could this be a sign of a learning disability? I am trying so hard not to compare but can't help it as I want to prepare myself but also help him in anyway I can.
My heart hurts just writing this so please be kind.

Hi love,
Sorry you're going through this. sending big hugs x.
Its hard not to compare, My DS is almost 3 now and I cant even remember him being a big "mimicker" at 8 months. All babies grow and develop differently. Not every kid hit milestones at the same time and more often than not, nothings wrong. If you're concerned I would check with HV perhaps? Or GP to check if the stoke may have had something to do with it? Wish you the best of luck x

Oh bless you, that was a scary start to his life Thanks

It's probably too early to be worried about mimicking but I can see why you are. Can you get your Health Visitor to come and do a check up?

She does sometimes join in if others are laughing but only occasionally.

Of her baby friends at similar ages most don't mimick much or at all.

Wishing you all the best for your strong little boy
