Accidentally diluted breastmilk for 8 week old

My husband made up a bottle of expressed breastmilk for or 8 week old baby by thawing it in a bowl of hot tap water. We fed it to our baby but she was still hungry so I went to make more. I emptied the bowl of water and realised it was white. It's a mystery as my husband didn't think he submerged the seal. Either way, I'm worried that we have either a) caused her water intoxication b) poisoned her by giving her unboiled water. I'm freaking out, especially has she has had an awful time since birth (thrush all through her mouth and digestive tract twice, including right now, plus awful, painful side effects to a medication the doctor gave her - awful stomach cramps). I feel like an awful mum. Feeling so worried and bad!

She'll be fine don't worry. If it's diluted she might want another feed sooner than you expect.
The water in uk taps isn't toxic. She will be ok. Worst case scenario she might have an upset tummy but that's unlikely.

I agree with the post above. Try not to worry, things like this happen. Just respond to her needs if she seems like she wants another feed. A drop of tap water shouldn’t do any harm, it’s not like she will have had loads. Don’t panic.

She'll be fine. Definitely won't get water intoxication from a bit of water. Confused

I agree with everyone else on the milk/water side. But OP, regarding the thrush, I feel so sorry for you and your baby - my DD had horrendous thrush for the first 10 weeks. One thing that helped a lot was after a feed we dipped her soother in glycerine, which we got from the chemist. It cleaned the milk off her tongue, then the thrush had nothing to grow on, and that, combined with her immune system kicking in, finally cleared it.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 22/03/2022 07:37

Should be fine. But if she has thrush you need to treat your nipples for it and any frozen milk you have will probably contain it so it needs to be dumped.

It's not a problem. She will definitely be fine. The dilution will not affect her at all (she might be hungry sooner than usual though) and tap water in the UK is of pretty good quality. Please don't worry. She'll be fine.

Absolutely fine, I have done this inadvertently on many occasion!

Just to put things into perspective for you here- in America they don't even boil the water first before giving it to baby. She will be fine
