Toddler Awake Windows???

Hello all,

I wanted to ask do you stick to set awake windows for your toddler's routine or do you follow their lead?

The recommended awake window for my toddler is 5-5.5h for his age (19 months), however his routine can mean his awake windows are around 6-6.5h as his timings may not be consistent (e.g. morning wakeups, nap duration etc.).

Hope to hear back from what you do with your toddler & their routines!

I wouldn't worry about wake windows
My 9 month old regularly does six hours awake in a row 😭😂.
I really do just follow her lead

How do they sleep for their nap & night time sleep?

We don’t follow wake windows with DS…but we have pretty set (within half an hour) wake up time and bedtime with a nap cut off at 1.5h in between, so we do actually have roughly 5.5h (5h-6h) of awake time either side. Him and I both function far better with a predictable start and end to the day as opposed to sleeping after an allotted amount of hours at a variable time of day.

By now we just have fixed times, but I appreciate we’re lucky with DD (also 19m). Bedtime is always 7.30 (wind down from 7, 6.30 if doing a bath) and nap time is always 12.30 until about 1.45/2. She’s usually up at around 6.45 but on the odd occasions where she has an early start we just stick to the routine - it throws out meals and plans otherwise. She’s at nursery 4 days a week and they follow the same plan so we figured there’s no point flexing it half the time when they can’t amend it around her the rest of the time.

I also stopped bothering with wake windows when my DD dropped to 1 nap. Nap is always after lunch (12:30) and bedtime is at 7/7:30. She usually wakes around 7am and naps for 1.5-2 hours - she’s 22 months.

Exactly this. I always followed wake windows before, and now it's more about consistency.

I don’t even know what a wake window is! I guess how long they are awake for at a time? If so I wouldn’t bother and just follow your child, none of mine napped daily passed 18 months.
