can money buy you happiness?

however it can provide secuirity and freedom thereby providing happiness

It can buy you the tools to help you achieve happiness. But you need also to (a) know how to use the tools, and (b) go ahead and make the effort to use them.

the security and freedom may help to facilitate happiness, but they won't provide it all on their own.

Not necessarily, but a serious lack of money (ie not being able to pay bills, mounting debts etc) leads to severe unhappiness and a feeling of every day being under a dark cloud.
