7.5 month old - A&E or keep holdin on for 111?

Just taken my 7.5 month old temp (digital thermometer) and it’s saying 39.9. He did get out of the bath over 30 mins ago. He also has faster breathing than usual.

My husband has tested positive for covid and I’m waiting for PCR results as I’ve started feeling ill.

We’re on hold to 111 but we’re only 10 mins drive from A&E - do we take him to A&E or keep holding on? He’s currently sleeping on me.

I'd lean towards A and E. I have no medical training, but my 2 year old has been very sick with tonsillitis a few times. High temperatures, fast breathing and a fast heart rate gets you send to A and E.

Strip ds down, give him calpol to help reduce his fever. If you feel his breathing is life threatening then it's 999 you need to call otherwise keep holding for 111.

Is he sucking in under his ribs? If you have concerns about his breathing go to a&e, likely that 111 will send you there anyway

Has he had any Calpol? How was he before he fell asleep?

Hi everyone- thanks for responding so quickly last night. Literally 1 minute after posting we got through to 111 who referred us to out of hours GP. Who phoned back a few hours later.

Had to wake DS twice which he was not happy about. In the meantime our PCRs have come back positive so it looks like we’ve passed covid onto our DS 😔

He’s obviously in quite a bit of discomfort but we’re giving calpol, ibuprofen and lots of cuddles/boob.

Sounds like you are having a rubbish time, it's so worrying when they are so little! I hope you all recover quickly Flowers
