Is my 7mo behind already?

I have a 7 month old DD. She is beautiful, sunny, eats and sleeps well and is generally doing wonderful in that respect.

But compared to some of the babies of the same age from my groups she doesn't do very much - they are all super active by now and can army crawl or bum shuffle around DD just stays sat in the same place until she is moved. She doesn't really seem interested in moving at all really even when I put toys slightly out of reach.

Its starting to put me off meeting up with people because of the head tilt and 'oh is she still not trying to move?' comments.

She can roll from front to back, but has also never rolled from back to front despite my best efforts. She sits really well though and weight bears on her legs.

I just dont know whether to worry or not, she is my first so I've no idea. My mum also said i was very much on the move by her age...

Vicky1989x · 15/03/2022 20:11

I wouldn’t worry to be honest. My DD was the same, didn’t roll back to front until 8.5 months, crawled at 10.5 months and walked at 15 months. Some kids just take their time and they’re all different!

firstimemamma · 15/03/2022 20:13

Don't compare - they are all different! My son was pretty much happy to watch the world go by until 18 months. He's turning 4 this year and happily runs into nursery each morning and is incredibly active. If I told you he'd first walked at 9 months or whatever you'd have no reason not to believe me. Relax and enjoy your baby. She is an individual.

DogforPM · 15/03/2022 20:17

I really wouldn’t be concerned about this. Please try not to compare with others. My oldest didn’t walk until 18 months and can’t remember when either rolled, but was definitely later than 7 months. As long as you’re not concerned about anything else, it’s nothing to be concerned about at all.

Ah people are so funny! My eldest son crawled at 5 months, walked at 10 months. He has since been diagnosed with dyspraxia! My youngest is 3, he didn't walk until 14 months! We had plenty of similar comments, he is totally fine. I think he just waited until he could do it properly! 😂. I know it's hard but try to ignore it. I'm sure she is just perfect.

QuiltedHippo · 15/03/2022 20:32

They're all different, mine crawled at 7 months and that was early compared with most in our group. At 10 month ish you'll (maybe!) Have a health visitor review and they'll ask about crawling but its by no means definite by then, so theyve got loads of time!

Rinatinabina · 15/03/2022 20:37

My DD was basically a complete cabbage as a baby (cutest cabbage ever) but I got a lot of the head tilt stuff too. At 2 and half I spend most of my time trying to prevent her from climbing on stuff and bolting, I don’t think she actually knows how to sit down.

DarleneSnell · 15/03/2022 20:40

My gorgeous nephew is 9 months and sits there like a spud unless moved, and neither of my own kids were at all mobile before 9 months. So in my world your DD is very normal!

Bunny2021 · 15/03/2022 20:40

None of the babies in my NCT group are crawling - they’re all 7 months. My DS still doesn’t fully sit by himself all the time - some of the other babies are sitting fully.

Really don’t worry! In all honesty - I’m hoping my DS stays stationary for as long as possible. Once they’re on the move it’s non-stop!

It’s so hard but one thing I’m learning is just don’t compare your baby to others. They are all on their own journey.

Mrsmch123 · 15/03/2022 20:40

I wouldn't worry. I have a nearly 9 month old potato😂he can roll but has showed zero interest in moving hence we call him the small potato😂they all get there eventually!

springtimeishereagain · 15/03/2022 20:44

My ds was commando crawling at 7 months but couldn't sit up until 10 months! They are all different.

Enjoy your lovely dd.

AwayInMyMind · 15/03/2022 20:44

Please don't compare your DD with another child.

Honestly the age range in when they do things is so huge. One of mine walked at 10 months and the other one wasn't stilling up at 7 months.

You will find that your DD will do other things easier then other children too.

Timeturnerplease · 15/03/2022 20:56

DD1 was angrily immobile from sitting at 5 months to cruising at 10 months. She’s 3 now and I don’t think my eardrums have recovered yet.

Out of her similar ages buddies there are those who crawled at 7 months and those who only started bum shuffling at 15 months. There’s such a big range of normal - if your little one is happy, then I wouldn’t worry too much.

Random789 · 15/03/2022 21:05

These small variations in timescales and behaviours will seem laughably insignificant to you in years to come, OP. Honestly, it DOESN'T MATTER. Of course you worry -- that is natural because you love your child so much. But it is kind of a temporary madness. One day (probably when she is about 25) you will look at your child and say to yourself, ah, ok, she is just a person , she is fine, just herself with all her strengths and weaknesses. But until then you will have these waves and waves of pointless worry again and again and again. Try to let them just wash over you.

PlantingGreen · 15/03/2022 21:09

My DS would push himself across the floor around 10 months, crawled at around 11 months and didn't pull to stand until 13 months. He is 15 months now and isn't walking or standing independently yet. He will when he is ready.

ItsSnowJokes · 15/03/2022 21:15

Watch the episode of Bluey called "Baby Race".

Quornflakegirl · 15/03/2022 21:22

She sounds totally normal. My twins couldn’t sit until 9 months and lay like lumps for ages (much to my delight!) they crawled at 12 months and walked at 16 months. This late physical development didn’t hold them back though, both could ride a hike and swim by age 3. They are great at sports now at almost 10. Please don’t compare your baby or let it upset you.

Babyfg · 15/03/2022 21:24

My son crawled, walked, talked, etc way before the average milestone....it looks great in public but he didn't sleep through the night until about three and is the fussiest eater I've ever met, two things your daughter is smashing!

At baby groups I'd be nearly crying that babies just passed out for a nap and I'd be battling mine or having him cling to me.

We're all chasing a different dream! Your daughter sounds perfect.

SouthParkCovid · 15/03/2022 21:36

Mines 9 month and a potato to be honest!

Sits well but hates tummy time and doesn't bum shuffle etc.

Enjoy it op, they're all so different

ShadowPuppets · 15/03/2022 21:51

Mine was on the move really early but only now at 19mo is really starting with any language. The head tilt mums for me are the ones whose babies have been talking for ages - but rewind a year ago and theirs hadn’t started crawling while mine was running! (Which meant I was the only one in my NCT group who couldn’t go to mum and baby yoga after 5 months because she wouldn’t just lie at the end of the mat. Not bitter at all, thanks DD HmmGrin)

Basically, as others have said - it’s all in such a big window. Your lovely little one isn’t ‘behind’ at all Smile honestly, you’ll look back and wonder why it felt so important. I know it does! But it all sort of melts away once they’ve cracked it.

Mummyongin · 15/03/2022 21:53

There’s nothing in your post OP that would concern me. Maybe try a different baby group where you don’t get unhelpful comments?

ShadowPuppets · 15/03/2022 21:54
  • not a year ago, rewind to when they were ‘a year old’. Sorry, sleep deprived Grin
Regularsizedrudy · 15/03/2022 21:57

She has existed in this world for 7 months!! What do you think will happen? That she’ll never crawl or walk? Of course not! She’s fine, just enjoy her.

Luckyelephant1 · 15/03/2022 21:59

The babies in my NCT group range from 7-8.5 months and so far only 1 out of 7 is crawling (not mine lol). It is really hard not to compare but try not to, they'll all do things at their own pace. Mine did a bum shuffle for a few days and then stopped, she also barely rolls over any more yet was doing it loads a month or so ago Confused

Littlepaws18 · 15/03/2022 22:00

My 8 month old refuses to sit! So you are one up on mine! Don't worry and don't compare, babies will develop in their own good time, sone mile stones they may pick up quickly, others take longer.

Beamur · 15/03/2022 22:01

Mine didn't crawl until she was a year old. It was great! She shuffled around a bit..
Fine motor skills were impeccable though. Babies tend to develop one before the other.
Don't compare and ignore the head tilters.
