I am thinking of getting a baby swing (am pregnant) as when my DS was born, I could never ever put him down anywhere without him crying. This went on for months and months so this time, I need something to help me out! I've read that some people were able to put babies like this in a swing - can anyone recommend a good one (pref. with washable covers as my babies tend to puke alot!)

get a secondhand one from ebay - they cost a blardy fortune

or just get a sling?

We have a Graco swing which we found marvellous for DD1 who really enjoyed it, but no use whatsoever for DD2. We've loaned the swing out a lot and some parents have been deeply grateful for it.

If you are based in Northumberland (unlikely but you never know..) you'd be welcome to have ours on loan, Crokky. If not, Like MrsBadger, I would recommend buying second hand just in case it's money wasted.

Thanks Patsy - I am hundreds of miles away

I usually try and get stuff that is mid priced and keep it in really good condition with all the bits and instructions so that I can sell it immediately on eBay once I have finished with it to keep the overall cost down. That's what I am planning to do if I get a swing, but I am just wary of getting one with too many gimmicks on that is overpriced as it seems the main thing that some babies love is the rocking motion. I have looked on eBay and there are some that you can plug an MP3 player into!!! I think I just want a basic one but don't know what to go for.

Hmm, probably not worth moving just for a swing...

Ours is very basic with two speed settings and no tray or mobile, but I've just checked the Graco site and they don't seem to do anything simple any more. Sorry.

mmm id go for one that is very laid back iyswim

how about the rainforest swing fisher price

dd loved her gracco one but she couldnt really go in it till 4 months as her head would wobble about even though strapped in

next time ill go for a better one

i think mamas and papas do a nice one starlight swing

so my advice get one whre there babies lays down more than sits up you will get much more use out of it that way

crokky · 05/01/2008 23:14

thanks for that, I hadn't thought that some may be more reclined - was a problem for me with my DS and his carseat so will definitely look out for that feature

someoene was selling a fisher price takealong swing on here recently. they're magical, wondrous things...

Milliways · 05/01/2008 23:23

We had one that was a high chair that converted to a swing, so used the swing for early months, then as a low chair, then a high chair. it was fab.

We also found a silver helium balloon tied to a bouncing cradle provided hours of endless staring & kicking - which moves balloon so endless entertainment!

Staceym21AtLast · 05/01/2008 23:23

could have been me

Swedes2Turnips1 · 05/01/2008 23:23

Bouncy chair with a vibrator - my sister bought my DD one - you are apparently never too young for your first vibrator.

fingerwoman · 05/01/2008 23:25

we have the fisher price take along one and it#s really nice and reclined
more like a hammocky type thing than a proper chair seat iyswim?

ds hates it, but that's besides the point lol
