Is this cradle cap?

Hi everyone, just wanted to get some opinions on my 4 month olds head. She’s had cradle cap for a while now however she is always scratching the right side of her head and making it bleed. We have taken her to see a doctor and she basically just palmed us off and said it’s cradle cap and use olive oil (we’ve tried everything) but it’s getting worse now, the health visitor has said she needs to be referred to a dermatologist.
I’m going to add a photo just to show how bad it was today, just want to see what people think x

Ouch! My two both had cradle cap but never seeemed bothered by it, and it certainly never bled. I'm no expert but this doesn't actually look like cradle cap - I can't see any of the thick yellowish scales that my kids had. This looks dry and sore. Has the docor seen it in person recently? If the HV says this needs a dermatologist reference, ring the GP surgery and say that's what the HV has said. Good luck x

That’s not what cradle cap looked like on either of mine, it’s closer to their eczema. I’d push for the dermatologist referral.

In my experience cradle cap never caused the baby to scratch so would get a second opinion.

This might sound bizarre but on my mums direction i used to massage baby oil in the cradle cap then when it had softened use an eyelash comb to gently remove it.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/cradle-cap/

This has two things I thought interesting:

  1. the second picture and explanation when the flakes one off the skin can be red
  2. olive oil no longer recommended

That looks like eczema to me.
My youngest had cradle cap and my middle one eczema.

2 of mine had cradle cap and it didn't look like that either. I was going to suggest eczema or possibly even an allergy to something.

Could you use some scratch mittens to stop it getting any worse?

Try Baby Aveeno hair/body wash - it’s good for both cradle cap and eczema. It’s a miracle worker in our family.
