Just wondering at what age did you use a pillow in the cot for your toddler if at all?
My baby is 16months and not sure whether to try one or not!

We started about 14 months with no problems at all. Get a very flat toddler one, ikea sell them ☺️

Some guidance on this says 18months. Personally I wouldn't place a pillow in a cot. When they go into a toddler bed, or their cot gets converted into a bed then I think bedding is OK.

When the child is old enough for a toddler bed

24 months for us, dc1 moved into a toddler bed with a toddler pillow duvet set

Bornsloppy · 03/03/2022 08:27

About 2 for us. Still just sleeps on the mattress but it makes a nice place for all the cuddly toys to sit on.

When he started comandeering mine! I use an old one that had gone flat for both DS1 and 2 when they first had a pillow, and he's happy with that. Then upgrade to something more fluffy once they are about 5/6 or it starts to look sad and flat in relation to the size of them.

DD was around 13months when I got her a pillow, but she still used a sleeping bag, rather than a duvet.
It was after we'd done some co sleeping and she was using the pillows in our bed.

This is the one I got, firm and flat

15 months for us, we got it from ikea

ohbumcakes · 03/03/2022 09:08

The NHS advises no pillow under 12 months, I think general consensus though is 18 months onwards and ideally when baby is out of cot and in a toddler bed. But really you know your child, whenever you feel they might need it.

Nothing wrong with waiting though!

12 months for us

Bluebellsandbroomsticks · 03/03/2022 09:20

Shortly after 12 months I introduced the really flat ikea pillow and it worked a treat to teach DS to sleep in one position, in preparation for moving to a bed around 2.

Ellie5341 · 03/03/2022 18:02

2 1/2 and started with the ikea toddler one, it was brilliant and could be washed in the washing machine and was really cheap!

Hope that helps someone as I struggled to find one!

Mommabear20 · 03/03/2022 18:15

We started using the flat IKEA one when DD was 14 months, took her a while to figure it out but not she loves it!

Thank you everyone Smile

Nothing at all in a cot. No pillows, blankets, toys, blankets. Nothing.

Pillows are fine in toddler beds, which can be used after 15 months.
