Potty training advice, oh wise ones...

My son is 2.11 yrs and I have decided that now is the time to potty train him. He had all the 'signs' of being ready (according to the books) from about 2 yrs, but point blank refused to go in the potty or on the loo, so we have had a few fits and starts over the last few months. In October, he had a few wees / poos in the potty to much applause (God, what have we come to when we cheer a poo-ing toddler? ), but unfortunately I suffered a m/c not long after and the potty training thing kind of went on the back burner. I have set Monday as a date to start trying again with him. How do I go about it this time? To get it 'right'? He attends nursery in the afternoons, and toddle rgroup in the monrings. he is frightened of sitting on the toilet (no amount of coaxing or praise has worked so far)...so do I bring the potty with us when we go out? Advice please on all aspects of toilet training, from MN wise ones! Thanks!

Buy a potette (boots or supermarket equivalent) when you go out - I wouldn't survive without mine! It's a portable potty.

And chocolate buttons!

So sorry to hear of your m/c...

Have you a set of 'big boy pants?' We let our ds1 chose his own -bob pants - and this was a good incentive for him. He hated the potty and so soon started weeing standing up to be 'like daddy'. We went straight into pants and ditched the nappies as he could then feel when he was wet. We kept nappies at night and long journeys. Don't expect too much too soon, they all take their own time and pressure can put them off.
The wees were easy -the poos they took AGES! And we had to do the 'poo dance' whenever he did a poo in the toilet, even in public loos. Oh how glad I was I started that.
