She has been grunting and straining all day but each time I change her nappy there is nothing there, or a tiny bit of poo poking out (sorry gross!). I've just changed her nappy again and she pooed a bit but screamed the whole time and stuggled to get it out.

The poo is obviouly more solid than her bf poo but not particularly hard. tbh I'm not sure what it should be like, she has only just started weaning she is still bfed on demand, she has been eating things like pear, toast and hummous. is it likely she is constipated & what can i give her to relieve it?

bumper - hoe someone else comes along for advice but dd who is 8mths does this too. i have been trying to get plenty of water into her with a cup at meal times (usually to no avail!) i have tried her on some orange juice one day - worked a treat!

hi bumper my tips are water at mealtimes
and to get her going either some squeezed oj or prune juice on a teaspoon just a little bit
if she is in lots of pain go to gp who can give you a suppository to get her going and then giving the water at mealtimes should stop it happening again
good luck

Thanks for the tips. I always thought that as she is still mostly bfed that she didn't need water. but I will try her with some oj. poor mite!

bumper the water is as much to get mine used to a cup as it is for the actual water iyswim it is good to introduce a cup now so you can go from breast to cup rather than breast to bottle

My dd had this problem when she was weaned and the doctor said that as she was not having purees, she needed the water, even though she was being bf still.

DD got a fissure (sp?) in her bottom so that she was screaming and bleeding when she poo-ed, poor mite. He gave her some lactulose and told me to get as much water in her as I could (not much!). Fixed the prob in afew days.

Hope she is ok xxx
