Formula making

Hi all!

I've recently just started making my little girls bottles by adding 120ml (4oz) of cool boiled water to 60ml (2oz) of just boiled water as I was having to be up 1.5 hour before her feed to make it, let it cool etc and it was just exhausting.

I add the formula to the just boiled water, roll it around in my hands then add the cool water. It's perfect every time but now I'm wondering am I burning the nutrients in the powder by adding it to boiling water? Is that even a thing or am I in my own head 😂

In theory I think that sounds fine and you won't be burning off any nutrients. It's how the prep machines make up the bottles essentially:

  1. Hot shot into formula
  2. Shake until lumps are gone
  3. Add filtered cool water to make up right oz bottle

If you're not happy with it / are worried, could you make the bottle as you were but run it under a cool tap / put in a cool water bath to help cool it down quicker? I think that's the advice NHS website gives about making UK bottles.

There's a nuby flask which you mix with formula then it cools it to correct temp in about 2 mins I think. Available on amazon I own a nursery and filled one up for a parent one time and thought it was genius!

I've got the nuby flask - Nuby Rapid Cool - qs mentioned above. It was half price on amazon so decided to give it a go and it's great :) saves me masses of time and makes using formula out and about a lot easier rather than relying on the premade options.

...however, based on your original question. I don't think your doing anything wrong, as mentioned above that's how the prep machine works, and the nuby also says to add boiling water to Sterilise the formula powder.
