Parents of young kids, what do you wear?

What hides all the dirt and snot from sticky and grubby hands and noses?

Or is it just my kid?

At the moment I've found denim shirts are a godsend but I need to add more diversity to my "mum uniform".

So parents of young kids? What do you wear? Or are your kids always immaculately clean and I'm just a terrible parent....

Mine isn’t a sticky child but we live somewhere rural so we all get pretty muddy this time of year. I wear dark jeans, boots, jersey skirts with black tights, my top half doesn’t get that grubby but I’m always cold so in long vest tops, long sleeve tops and jumpers, layering like mad, a couple of dark coats.

Mon-Fri: athleisure, so a quality pair of leggings with a t-shirt and "cool" bomber jacket, mainly for the playground and dog walks, but also comfy when WFH. Paired with boots or trainers.

Weekend: jeans with fitted t-shirt or nice long-sleeve top with a roll neck type thing. Ballet flats or knee-high boots.

In the summer: long or short floaty dresses with trainers or sandals.

As regards to sticky and snotty fingers, what about wet wipes?! I so rarely get any stickiness on my clothes.

Wear an apron! I have a few nice denim ones. 🥰

Few staple outfits:

  • Oversized Jumper, leggings, dm boots with a raincoat over.
  • Wide leg jeans, t shirt, trainers or boots
  • mom jeans with t shirt, cord shirt or cardi, chunky boots

I’ve just decided to embrace it. I’ve got a manky hoody which I wear round the house which absorbs the majority of the baby sick and the bigger kids sticky fingers/general grime. If I need to leave the house I take the hoody off and I’m reasonably presentable on the top half at least. We won’t talk about my jeans Grin

Jeans or walking trousers (cargo shorts in the summer)

Tshirt, fleece or hoody and a Gillet.

Walking trainers, boots or wellies with hiking socks.

I live in a city centre, but grew up rural and it’s never left me Grin

In this weather, generally have a fleece over tops so that I can take it off when indoors and preserve the jumper (which is usually paired with jeans). I also have a coat which just wipes down, so that If I get muddy feet on it I just use wipes to quickly tidy.

Summer is easier as skin is wipeable 🤣

I generally always can be found in casuals when I have the little one in tow.

Leggings and a long jumper / jumper dress. If it's not a solid colour, it doesn't show up the grime quite so much.

Jeans, and t-shirts and or flannel shirts. I pretty much live in my late Dad's leather jacket rn too, so wearing a jacket 4/5 times too big probably distracts from everything else.
But... I just don't care?
I mean, I'm lucky in that I pretty much always wore dark colours even before I was a parent, so marks don't show up as much. But generally I've just accepted that I have a 3yo that dribbles more than is humanly possible and a 4yo who is into everything and will leave sticky finger prints on everything. The only thing that ever really bothers me is when 3yo gives me a hug, or has been crying on my shoulder and when she pulls away my hair is soaked... Kinda gross :/

The best advice I can give is to always carry tissues and wet wipes and to try and embrace it, lol

Jeggings. Got them in black, grey, dark blue, light blue. Occasionally leggings. I've got various jumpers in pastels and some bold ones. I also wear random tops in various colours. I've never massively felt the kids have got me filthy through snot etc. My kids are not immaculate either.
