what nappies for a small baby?

Hello. we have bambino mio washables for baby, however she is at the moment too small for everything. She was 6lb 6oz when she was born on sat and has lost a bit of weight.

We have been using tescos nappies for premature babies, simply as this is what somebody gave me in hospital.

We are now coming to the end of our supply and wondering what the best thing to get is?

any advise would be great

someone told me muslins make good nappies for little babies.

Ask one of the mnetters who are regular mnetters but also have ads on the small business section. I'm sure they would be happy to advise.

I had a bigger baby so started using my motherease when she was 10lb but it will be a while before your lo will be big enough for "standard" size washables.

Yes, muslins are great. You can nippa them if you fold as you would a normal flat terry. If you need extra absorbancy then you can also add a booster to the middle. Have a look at the nappy lady website for ideas on folding. HTH

actually mine expired on xmas day so it seems lol! that 3 months passes by way to fast!

lailasmum · 03/01/2008 15:59

Muslins and a wrap designed to fit from 6lb works well and are cheap. The new size 0 tots wraps are fairly dinky and have cross over velcro so the waist can be made really small. I remember having a similar problem when we planned to use prefolds on my dd, she was born at 6lb 12 and lost a bit and the prefolds were massive (and to be honest pretty useless when they did fit). Fuzzi Bunz do a nice XS small nappy if you want to spend a bit more or diddy diapers with a wrap or bimble size 0 with a wrap are popular too.

curlywurlycremeegg · 03/01/2008 16:07

or a Sandy's extra small or if you really want to push the boat out Swaddlebees organic velour in a small are gorgeous! Motherease do an extra small airflow and rikki wrap also

Coby · 03/01/2008 21:33

another vote for bimbles if you can afford them (not expensive but they don't fit for long - good resale value though), muslins if not. Problem is I wonder if after trying bimbles you might be tempted away from your bambino mio and onto shaped two part nappies when the time comes

dingdong05 · 04/01/2008 00:02

You could always try using a booster (like a tots bots booster) inside a fleece size 0 redwrap. THE FLeece is quite soft and cozy, rather than the plasticy pul wraps, and tiny babies often don't wee enough to need too much absorbency! Or fold up a muslin into a pad, if you already have them and don't want to start pinning them.

dingdong05 · 04/01/2008 00:05

Actually I have a bunch of size 0 cotton tots you could borrow... I'll pm you about it...

dingdong05 · 04/01/2008 00:06

Oh, I can't!

FlameNFurter · 04/01/2008 00:19

Yup - swaddlebees are goooooooooooooooooorgeous if you can stretch to them, if not I would say nippa bimbles. I have some xs cotton bottoms wraps sat here that I have been planning to set up a teeny baby MN loan thing with if you're interested.
