13 month old possibly delayed?

I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not. He walks great but everything else seems a little off. He used to say dada all day long but for the past month he's not said it at all, the only other word he says is mama and that's only when he's really tired. He doesn't babble just sometimes squeals. He's obsessed with the TV to the point that if I had it on all day he'd stand there all day watching it (I obviously don't). When he's excited like when TVs on he'll stand rocking side to side and flapping his hands the entire time. He doesn't wave or stick his tongue out to copy me. I know we shouldn't compare children but he's totally different to my others as babies. Does anyone else think this sounds a bit different to usual?

He will be due is one year check around now so I would ring your HV and discuss it with them.

You can find the one year check questionnaire online.

Here is the questionnaire

Some of what you've said sounds like my DS who is also 13 months. He hit all his Milestones at his 1 year review (he does babble and chat and copies words) but I was getting worried because he doesn't wave, or point and at the time he wasn't showing any sign of walking (very efficient crawler) although now he has started to take some very wobbly steps away from furniture.

HV said to keep an eye and take note of anything else I notice, keep encouraging him to do things but ultimately she didn't think it was a problem at this point. Kids don't do things if it doesn't serve them to and once she said that to me it kinda made sense.

Definitely discuss with your HV but try not to worry. 13 months is still very young and as you say all kids develop differently.

Speak to the HV asap and don't take no for an answer. My DS was the same and he's currently 26 months and awaiting autism assessment. That isn't to frighten you btw just factual.

Thankyou all, I've rung the health visitor and she said the lack of eye contact, not responding to his name and not saying words he could say catches her attention so she will be sending the nursery nurse out to see him

Aftereights91 · 02/05/2023 15:07

@Newmama232
Hi :) he's 2 and a quarter now, still not speaking and very clearly autistic, just waiting for a date for his autism assessment x
