Splash about wetsuit or vest? For young baby

Hi

Would the wetsuit keep him warmer rather than the vest? The pool I’m taking him to will be warmer as it’s for babies and don’t want him to be too warm

SmileThank you

I take my baby to a pool that is only for baby swimming (so its v warm) and we just wear the happy nappy plus disposable swim nappy underneath. No top. So do most of the other babes in our group.

Hey hey I would get a wetsuit for LO - I only swim in warm pools bit babies get cold very easily!
They are a nightmare to get off though!x

@Cantgetausername87 thanks I was thinking more towards a wetsuit. Would you ever take your baby to a regular pool too? I was hoping to occasionally take him to a regular pool too with hubby but I guess it would be too cold?

Our baby swimming pool is a warm one and the swimming teacher/company won’t let us use a wetsuit in case they over heat.
If it was a normal pool in a leisure centre then I would use one.

Chloesss · 24/02/2022 18:03

@Pipperleen oh really, I would more worried about him over heating.

The pool I’m taking him to said it’s 30-31C so it is warm and the temperature of the air is also warm. But she did say a lot of the parents dress them in an all in one suit Confused I’m so unsure now

In that case, either would probably be fine if that’s what she said - we started off with the wetsuit when she was tiny for normal swimming but then had to borrow the swim school’s pants type swimming shorts instead every week for her ‘lessons’ so have just bought the pants ever since, even for normal swimming. Bit cheaper too!

Can you get one of the wrapover wetsuits that velcroes round the body and between the legs? I always found those best as they are quicker to remove afterwards!

Cantgetausername87 · 24/02/2022 19:04

@Chloesss yes once my son was used to being in the pool we'd take him to the leisure centre -he doesnt enjoy it as much as its noisy and busy lol!

Madmaxxy · 24/02/2022 21:51

Hi OP that's the temperature range of the pool we have our lessons in. I know it sounds warm but after 30 minutes it does feel chilly! DD wore a Splashabout wetsuit until she was about 6 months, and now wears a normal sunsuit thing over a happy nappy

PinkPlantCase · 24/02/2022 21:56

My DC absolutely hated the splash about wetsuits. If you really think you need something I’d get the wrap, but you probably don’t need it.

Just get the nappy and see how you get on?

From about 4 months I took LO one to local leisure centre pool that isn’t heated especially for baby’s and he was fine. Didn’t get too cold in just a nappy and had a great time.
