Who do I see about lip tie / does it need treating?

I think my daughter has a lip tie ..she’s only 11 weeks old. She can’t close her mouth her top lip is always open exposing where her teeth would be and when I rolled her lip back it looks like the pictures of lip tie I’ve seen online with the frenulum attacked to her palette.

Do I go to GP or dentist..health visitor? Breastfeeding is still tricky and I’m wondering if this is why..she pops off all the time. She’s gaining well but I don’t feel like it’s very efficient / easy to get the milk in her!

Hi, my 5 month old has a tongue tie. Spoke to my health visitor about it and she's referred us to the hospital to get it checked out. I'd rather be told there is no issue than for something to come up later down the line. I guess your GP could refer you as well.

It's worth checking op. Lip ties alone (when not combined with tongue ties) are not often a problem, but from your description (not closing mouth properly), it does sound like it might be worth getting an opinion about. I would ask your GP, but also get advice from your health visitor as another opinion. Be aware that not a great deal is known about lip ties and opinions vary massively. Perhaps seeking advice from a lactation consultant might also be a good idea.

My eldest dc had a lip tie. The NHS here doesn’t even acknowledge that they exist!

It was our dentist that picked it up when she was just over 1, and after a year of exclusively expressing was on cows milk for my sanity!
