Help! 2.8yo toddler waking in the night

Hi,

Our 2.8yo toddler has started waking in the night. He previously slept 7.30-7.30 every night. For the past 6 weeks he’s been waking every night any time between 1-3am, crying and just won’t settle back in his bed. He will sleep if we bring him in to our bed but I’m 34w pregnant and am worried that this phase won’t have passed by the time the baby arrives.

Does anyone have any advice? He dropped his naps 3 or 4 months ago, he’s potty trained and eats well and nothing from his routine has changed. We are exhausted!

DD1 was 2.8 when DD2 was born. She started waking with nightmares a few weeks before my due date, it escalated into wakes and shouting us for random reasons and peaked when DD2 was around 3mo. It’s been slowly getting better, with her starting preschool and us introducing a nightlight.

She’s never been able to share a bed with us, so when she’s really bad DH makes himself a little bed on her floor.

Sorry, I hope yours gets over it more quickly! DD1 ADORES DD2, so I do think the reason that it’s dragged on is that she’s spotted that she sleeps in our room and feels like she’s missing out.

Thanks so much @Timeturnerplease - good to know we’re not alone even if the prospect of this dragging on for months is slightly terrifying! I was prepared for a sleep regression when the baby arrived but thought I’d be enjoying my last few weeks of unbroken sleep at this point. It’s exhausting! Congrats on your new DD and hope the sleep is settling down for you all now.
