3.5 year old will not sleep alone

3.5 Dd slept well until around 3 months ago we could put her to bed and she slept through until 7ish although always woke crying

We thought we'd cracked it after going through a phase of rapid return sleep training around 9 months earlier

She just stopped wanting to go to sleep by herself so we foolishly lay in the room until she fell asleep and then returned if she woke in the night anywhere between 1030 pm and 530 am. We would lie in her room until morning. It got too much so now if she wakes in the night we let her in our bed. I know, I know.

Just not sure how to get out of the mess we have created. She drops off fairly quick at night. We're trying a camp bed in our room in the hope she'll prefer her own comfy toddler bed after a few tries. Also promise of a big girl bed if she starts sleeping in her room again.

She has said she is scared of the dark she has lovely string lights so it's not dark in there.

Any one successfully navigated this? We have an older child who I'd prefer not to disturb with more sleep training so a gentle approach would be good but I'm not sure if that will be effective
