Storm and unauthorised absence

Hello, I decided to keep my 2 children off school today due to the bad weather conditions and damage we received to our home overnight with roof tiles coming off due to this storm. My children cycle to school so I just felt it wasn't safe so made the decision to keep them home today. I reported their absence first thing this morning and was honest with my reasons. I've now received an email from the school telling me the reasons for my 2 being off was not a good enough reason so have marked it as an unauthorised absence! And should send them in this afternoon. I'm not happy doing this as it's still in my eyes not safe enough. Any advice would be really appreciated, shall I challenge this with the school? Is it unreasonable?. Thank you

There is no government guidance to suggest it is unsafe for your children to go to school (only yellow warnings across the UK) so yes, the school is right, they should be in. Can you walk there with them?

I'm with the school on this one too. There's no red warning today and school is open.

Damage to your house doesn't sound major and no need for the kids to be there. In fact if your house is damaged it's better they aren't there while it's repaired.

Send them to school

Is there any other way you can get them in? Can you drive them?

I agree with PP, it's only Amber warnings and some children in the north of Scotland would never go if they stayed in when weather was poor.

I currently work from home so I'm not able to take them in as I couldn't fit it into my break time. Maybe I was just over worried but i felt it was the right decision.

Where are you op? I went out earlier and someone's fence blew down and just missed me ....my dd wouldn't be cycling into school today. I take it there's no other way of getting there?

Don’t worry about it, one unauthorised absence is meaningless. Ignore and carry on with your day.
