Infant feeding 17 weeks

Hi,

So I have a 17 week old daughter who has never been a great milk lover, however she has gone from feeding 7pm-2am-7am, to then 7pm-12pm-4am, and now 11pm-2am-5am, draining 4oz at a time and not interested in daytime feeding, cannot get her to take more in the day than 3 oz a feed.

Do I reduce how much shes having at the night feeds? I'm getting less sleep than when she was a newborn.

DS had this around the same age. There was just too much excitement in the daytime to be bothered with milk so he was up all night. He’s breastfed but here are some things we tried: offering a dream feed, offering more milk more frequently in the day time, introducing a comfort item in case the feed was for comfort not food (could be a toy or dummy), night weaning and/or deciding when baby is “allowed” a feed. She’ll have space to eat if she’s gone X hours but that doesn’t mean she’s so hungry she can’t make it until morning.

Thank you for your reply purbal, I try to rock, dummy pat and nothing works! If it does only for 20 minutes and the only thing that settles her is a bottle. She's not fully asleep when I put her down so I don't think it's a habit or comfort, I think she is genuinely hungry but got it all abit the wrong way round! Going to have to slowly wean I think!

I think I'm having the same problem with my 17 month old. He's breastfed so hard to see exactly what his intake is but I feel like he's taking more at night recently and less by day. I'm trying to just encourage him to eat as much as possible during daytime to fill him up before the nights.

Have you tried doing the day feeds in a really boring place? I seem to remember that about this age they just get very interested in their surroundings. If you try feeding in a quiet room, no TV etc. Or maybe try slightly different times in the day. 17 weeks is very early to wean, I was told most babies aren’t ready until they are well established on solids, usually after 9 months but it’s later for some babies.
