Toddler and cat!

How do I teach my 24 month old that it’s not okay to throw things at the cat?

My cat is around 10 and I’ve had her since she was a kitten. She has been very good with my son so far but she is no toddler lap cat and very much enjoys her peace and quiet.

DS has started throwing toys at her as well as literally trying to kick her out of her cat bed so he can get in instead. I have explained it’s not nice etc but obviously he doesn’t totally understand yet and when I am firm with him after he’s done it, he just smiles and sometimes laughs, obviously he thinks it’s all a game! There's a good book called 'tails are not for pulling' which is all about helping toddlers understand how to be kind to pets.

Otherwise, I'd put down boundaries so as soon as he throws something at the cat you say 'it's OK to feel silly but it's not OK to throw things at the cat. I'm going to move you over here to keep the cat safe'. This way, there are real consequences to his actions. With repetitio, hopefully you'll have success.
