Binning they bottle - 2 year old

My 2 year old still has a bottle for her milk.

We are going to throw the bottles shortly as she's a bit old for them.

Which sort of cup do you give your 2 year old to drink milk out of?

Thanks

Just an open cup. The little plastic ones from Ikea.

Any open cup. Maybe try one with and without handles as some children prefer a handle but literally any open cup is fine for a 2 year old.

An open cup fills me with dread.

She's not quite two and while I have seen her drink from an open cup, she generally spills it down her top or her and her sister would play with it rather than drink it!!

Perhaps I will have to bite the bullet though!

We still use a sippy cup although dd is only 18m. All my nct mates etc all have incredible children who could use open cups around 12m...but it's not a competition! No shame in sippy cups!

I was still using a bottle age 3 and I have perfect teeth and never needed braces... your dc will be fine whichever you choose

We use tommee tippee sippy cups for bedtime milk for both ours (3 and 5) it's just less mess tbh.

They have water bottles or open cups the rest of the time now.

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/02/2022 09:12

Try a sippy cup, then progress to taking the lid off.

Mumoblue · 20/02/2022 09:28

I did a sippy cup, but DS wasn’t interested, turns out I think he just liked the cuddle time. So we ended up going cold turkey with bottles and he actually didn’t care at all.

Good luck with the transition! Flowers

Tum tum tots straw cups are really nice and don’t spill at all xx

We offered 2yo milk in all sorts of cups after throwing away the bottles and just hasn't been interested in milk since. Was having 24oz of milk over 3 bottles before that (ridiculous I know) so clearly didn't need it and just liked the bottle. Never asked for it again though, just has water in open cup.

We use one of those closed cups with a weighted straw for milk, because she has it right before a nap or at night while reclining and she would spill a cup everywhere. We are just about getting her to take a few sips of water from a cup during the day. I think we will drop the lunch sippy when she drops that nap, and give up the bedtime one when she's a lot older yet.
