14 month old getting upset and crying when told No

Nursery have mentioned this as well- if you say No to 14 month old DS, he gets really upset and cries.

I know that children need to hear no, but he isn’t much more than a baby and it’s a shame to see him distressed. Has anybody else had this? Most of my friends toddlers laugh!

My 14month old is like this as well, I just thought it was normal tbh. She's not getting what she wants so reacts the only way she knows how. She doesn't cry long and not every time.

I agree it isn't nice seeing them cry but it is good your little one is beginning tk understand boundaries...at 14 months that's exactly what they're trying to work out, the boundaries of what they can and can't do. Perfect time to start because it gets harder as they get older and more strong willed!

Isn’t that what they all do. You can try not saying no to him but he’ll turn into an awful child.

Completely normal. He's upset he can't do it/have it, which is absolutely fine. It's ok to be upset. He still can't do/have whatever you've said no to, but there is nothing wrong with his reaction to that news. Comfort him through, explain why he can't do it/have it and carry on.
