Does anyone else out there not have ANYONE they can ask to babysit? Haven't been out together for almost 2 years now, and it's getting me down...

That's it really. Family all live 80-100 miles away, no close friends, NCT antenatal group lovely and we still meet up, but although we've talked a few times about starting a babysitting circle all the others have friends/family who babysit for them regularly already, so nothing has happened. What can I do? DH and I haven't been out together since DS was born, and he'll be 2 in a couple of months...

We used to have a brilliant next-door-neighbour who would babysit occasionally. She'd refuse money so we'd buy her a present instead, and feed her cat when she went away. Plus DS recognised her. Shame all my neighbours where I live now are 80 years plus...that's villages for you.
When I was a teenager I was babysitting almost every night - I was loaded! I started with one family and was recommended to loads of others, so I would ask your nct friends if they recommend anyone too.

greenglassgoblin - have you had your night out? Having met me on Saturday would you be willing to let me babysit? I'd be happy to do so, and you needn't feel guilty as you could do a sit for me in return sometime?

We have to wait until family visit from UK and then we go out or we are in the UK. No family help or friends here it is not the done thing. SIL has not been out with her hubby alone for 5 yrs !

us. I have 2 boys and there is no-one really to ask as most of my friends seem to be single mums or have loads of chilren.
My mum is out of action for at least 6 months and I cannot afford to pay £6 an hour just to go to the sodding pub or cinema

Sorry if this has already been suggested but could you set up your own babysitting circle with some of the NCT mums.

A group of friends and I use www.mynightoff.com it doesn't cost anything and it means that you get over that embarrasment of asking people you don't know that well to babysit. Or perhaps you could even start a local mumsnet one.
