DS potential brain bleed

(I have also posted this in Children's Health but not had any response so posting here for traffic as I’m in a bit of a tizz)

DS (8mo) was born healthy and full term. No issues during pregnancy or post birth. At 14 weeks old he caught a viral infection, he deteriorated rapidly and ended up spending a week in PICU on a ventilator. He was in hospital for 2 weeks in total and has made full recovery. However, it’s recently been noticed that he has a bit of weakness in his left side. He doesn’t roll left or try to pick up toys/finger food with his left hand. He also doesn’t put his left foot fully on the floor when he’s in the jumperoo. He has only just begun sitting unaided and is nowhere near pulling himself to a sitting position, crawling or standing.

The doctors think he may have suffered a bleed on his brain during his time in PICU. I feel devastated by this but we won’t know for sure until he has an MRI scan. He starts physio immediately. Has anyone experienced similar or got any words of comfort at all? I feel so afraid DS will have cerebral palsy or lifelong physical limitations. Thank you x

I have a prematurely born son who had a brain bleed and has CP. He is an active bouncy five year old who is blathering about Lego at me and who is doing incredibly well at school. Yes he has some slight coordination problems and a slight lack of clarity with his speech but nothing that has held him back in life. He has regular physio and speech therapy and it’s been hugely helpful.

By coordination problems I mean he’s not great at ball catching skills. And his actual speech and language is great but sometimes it is a little unclear.

@MangshorJhol thank you for sharing your story, your DS sounds just like my 4yo when it comes to Lego 😂 I hope I didn’t offend you by implying a child with CP would have any less of a fulfilled life. My head is all over the place today and what I thought would be a routine follow up has thrown me.

Not offended at all. I remember what it was like when was a baby and we had no sense of the future.
