Anyone else got a little little one?

My DD is 2 years 4 months and 85cm and shy of 11kg. She was only 2.3kg at birth (not sure if growth restriction was to play or not). She’d dropped a bit on her centile which worried us but she’s got some weight gain shakes and is picking back up. It’s stressful. We get a lot of comments, ‘ oh she’s a baby’ and she’s started replying now ‘my not baby’. Was worse when she was actually a baby as despite having little baby rolls he got constantly mithered about her size, comments from everyone and their wife about her size.

I’m 5’3 and pre baby numero uno 8.5 stone without watching a scrap of what I eat and no real working out and I have a v small build. DH is 5’9.5 but of a very slender build. So we clealry don’t have it in us to have whoppers lol. Ds was 50th centile at birth and has now dropped to inbetween 25/50 for weight seems our kids will always just be on the smaller/ thinner side of life). I breastfed both of mine and got a lot of flack for that too, saying that’s why they’re small! Haha

So thought could put together a support thread for anyone who’s got a little little one, maybe iugr/ sga, ghd or just petite because that’s the way god intended. Would be nice to have similar people to chat to, share experiences, offer support or maybe have a vent :)

Omg, so glad you started this thread I was beginning to think my tiny DD was alone 😂

My DD was 1.61kg at birth (36 weeks, IUGR).. she’s now 21.5 months and weighs 10.5kg but only 79cm tall!

Also sick of comments 😂 but glad I’m not alone!

Oh what a welcome
Thread!!! 16 months and 8kg still in 9-12 baby grows and not even close to filling them.

People can be sooooo judgemental and I have definitely let it get me down a few times.

Thinking of asking if genetic tests are needed. She did have IUGR and was 6 weeks prem weighing 2kg

So strange I was just pondering today about DS. He's 2 years 4 months. 86cm and still in 12-18 month clothes. He eats well and he's on track developmentally. But DH is only 5ft 7 and I'm 5ft 4. So I wonder if he's just destined to be a little guy?

My DC2 was/is a dinky one- always small and started reception in a size 7 shoe - the same size that both Dc1 and Dc3 wore age 2. My side of the family is full of shorties- noone above 5'6. My husbands family is full of giants- noone below 6'0. I guess dc2 just got my small person genes!

2kg for 6 weeks early is a pretty good weight! Mine was 2.3 at 37 weeks and we were never told iugr they said she was ‘constitutionally small’.

It’s so stressful isn’t it. Even family members are horrible with their comments

I don’t think that’s particularly small or short around 9th centile, she’s under 2 so they do the length under 2 don’t they, and they’re always a bit shorter standing than lying down 😅

Looks like fantastic catch up to me :)

Oh what a great thread! DS was 2.1kg at birth (induced at 37 weeks) due to IUGR. He’s now 24 months and around 10.5kg / 85 cm, still in 9-12 month trousers! What he lacks in size he makes up for with personality!

Nc4post99 · 16/02/2022 19:39

@WhamBhamThankYouSpam that’s about 25th right for height? Sounds fantastic to me!

My girl getting up to 25th for height is like ultimate goals in this house lol x

Hopping on this thread - I have 2yo twins (boy/girl) and my little boy has always been on the small side. He had IUGR (that and his bigger sister basically sat on him for the last month of my pregnancy Hmm) and was born weighing 5lb at 36 weeks. Narrowly avoided NICU. It took months for him to get into 0-3 clothes, and he's always been roughly a clothes size behind his age. Has never caught up to his sister, who is admittedly big for her age so totally the opposite.

I haven't measured/ weighed him for a while but just comparing him to his sister he is MUCH lighter and slighter. I do worry about him. They have an older brother who is on the 95th+ percentile for height. I'm just worried he's going to be the short one of the three and if that will be hard for him. His dad is super tall too and I'm above average height.

Not sure what the point of all this is, except this thread spoke to me!

Is it really? I genuinely had to hide away the red book after the first year for my own MH, the stress of him not being even on the chart to start off with and then battling to get him weighed during lockdowns, with HVs fobbing me off with “he’s just petite” and “we only worry if they drop two percentile lines” - he didn’t have two lines to drop!! I’ve assumed he’s still hovering between the 2nd and 9th as everyone at nursery is so much bigger than him! Tempted to get the book out to check now…..

SpamIAm · 16/02/2022 20:09

My DS is 2 years 2 months and 80cm. Still in 12-18 months clothes. His sister is diddy but he's a few cm shorter than she was at this age. He was born 50th centile (which was a bit of a shock after his sister) but quickly dropped through the centiles. I'm sure he's just supposed to be small but I just feel like he hasn't grown for ages.

Nc4post99 · 16/02/2022 20:26

So you don’t have to check (ive got an app you can tell ive been super worried about dd) ive assumed his bday was yesterday but it’s plotted below. Definitely around 25th centile- which is amazing!
