How to wean my twins of formula

Hi All,

My twins will be 11 months tomorrow and we have had a turbulent weaning journey.

We started spoon feeding at 6 months which went well. I did have an issue moving to more lumpy foods but eventually they got the hang of things. At 8 months I tried finger food as asked to my health visitor which went ok. They would hardly eat anything but I wasn’t worried as it was only the start.

I give my twins finger food for a least 2 meals a day and it’s hit an miss. Sometimes they eat some and other times nothing. I have tried everything leaving bigger gaps between milkfeeds and it doesn’t work.

I recently reverted back to spoon feeding more and one of my twins is enjoying it and eating more.

I just don’t know what to do or how to get away from the milk feeds when there not eating 3 solid meals.

Any advise please?

I wouldn’t worry yet

But one thing is to reduce milk feeds before food now so they are hungry to eat. Ie if they currently wake and have 8oz milk then breakfast an hour later, drop that morning feed down to 6oz, then 5oz.

I would also just offer spoon and finger food so both options. Try spoon feeding some porridge. Then leave them 1/4 of it in bowl with spoon to try themselves ( it’s messy), and give 1/2 a banana each to play, and attempt to eat.
It’s messy, but after a few weeks you may find more ended up in mouth.

I remember when I was in the thick of weaning. It felt like I was constantly prepping some kind of food/drink. In the end I had to force the issue and take away an afternoon bottle as there was no sign of my DS reducing it naturally. I replaced it with a snack.
