NHS dentist appointment for baby

Has anyone tried booking an NHS dental appointment for their baby? If so, how long have you / are you having to wait for your appointment? I know the waiting list is pretty long for dentists at the moment so I was just curious!

Normally just take them with you to yours and they’ll have a peek in mouth whilst there to get them familiar

I mentioned I was pregnant (I imagine it was pretty obvious at 30 weeks) at my last dentist appt and they told me to book it then - it was about 14 months in advance Shock. Must have a very popular dentist!

My DD registered both her DC at around a year.....at her own NHS dentist..,,they all have a family appointment now.....it’s only now my eldest GC is 6 and has lost her first teeth that they have had a proper look at her teeth .....before that it was just a quick look and ‘yes they look fine keep brushing twice daily etc.

I tried to register 1yo and no dentists round here are accepting new NHS patients! Fretting a bit... I’m not sure we’re brushing well enough and would really have liked the check up.

I wouldn’t worry too much as long as you’re brushing properly twice a day and there are no issues.

With DS2 I didn’t take him until he was 3.

We took my now 8m old last to our dentist for the first time last month. It's both private and NHS, he's gone onto the NHS waiting list but the appointments for him are only £5 so I don't mind paying that! They're seeing him again when he's 14m old :)

Thank you for your replies Smile
I did contact our dentist and had my LO put on the NHS waiting list which is currently 65 weeks!! So his first appointment will be when he’s about 18 months and they seemed happy with that but said if I have any concerns before then, then I could contact them earlier I guess for a private appointment!

My DD is 18 months and has her first appointment in May, about 4.5 months away from when I booked it. My friend was told by her dentist not to worry until they're 2 but I know that goes against NHS recommendation which is to go when first teeth come through. I think that's mainly to familiarise them with going to the dentist though.
