Baby has one really hot red cheek (pic included)

8mo has a really hot patch by his ear/cheek. He is recovering from an ear infection in that ear, his course of antibiotics finished 3 days ago and he’s fine. Does anyone have experience of what could be causing this? Is this a sign of an ear infection?

One red cheek is typically teething.

Also I recently learned ear pulling or fidgeting with the ears can be a sign of teething too, as I was concerned my little one had an ear infection but she didn't.
